Across time and tide: Exploring the deep sea

Over a century ago, the Royal Research Ship Discovery (RRS Discovery) embarked on her first mission to bring light to the depths of our oceans below. Her legacy still lives on today.
Tammy Horton (National Oceanography Centre) and Sam Robinson (Royal Historical Society) will uncover some of the deep-sea creatures found by the RRS Discovery. You’ll be invited to Sketch these peculiar animals and hear about their strange lives below. Catch stories from the crew and researchers who first sailed with the ship. Get up close and personal with the authentic artworks and bona fide documents of the time and reflect on how these explorers of the past are still inspiring research today.
Please note that this event will involve discussions of whaling and will contain images of hunted whales.
