See, sketch, sew: Crafting a slower city
This workshop runs from 15.00 – 17.00
What happens if we slow down in a city that’s usually speeding? What creatures can we see, what plants can we find? What lives and grows around us, hidden in plain sight?
In this slow creative workshop, local author-artists Nazneen Ahmed Pathak and Yarrow Townsend will guide you to notice, appreciate and celebrate the diversity of nature in the urban environment around us in Southampton.
Starting with a short sensory nature walk outside the John Hansard Gallery, you’ll then learn how to sketch or stitch the things you find using Bengali naksi kantha techniques, a simple-to-learn, ancient traditional form of reusing and recycling textiles.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll be invited to show your tiny artwork, in an act of collective sharing, and then take it home, as a memento to the value of slowing down.
Please note: The venue and the sensory nature walk are both step-free and wheelchair accessible. The route will include a short distance over short, mown grass.
