Run time:

What happens when the infrastructure beneath our feet becomes a sensor?
This interactive exhibition brings together scientists, engineers, social researchers and artists from SOUNDSCALE (University of Southampton and the National Oceanography Centre) to explore a technology that can sense our city through vibrations. Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), is an emerging technology that turns optical fibre networks into long-range vibration detectors. Explore how the project collects data below our feet and opens up important questions about how cities are sensed, who benefits, and how technologies may reshape planning, mobility, privacy and public space.

This installation is part of series of events exploring how technology shapes our world.
