The deep sea dilemma

Run time: 12.30 – 13.30

In the darkness, on the Pacific Ocean floor, there lies a treasure trove of minerals. These minerals could be used to replace fossil fuels that are driving climate change. So what are we waiting for? Why aren’t we using it?
Appealing though the idea is, the reality is that this realm doesn’t belong to us, but to other types of creatures. Dive into the homeland of deep-sea dwellers living thousands of meters beneath us with Eva Stewart (Natural History Museum). Explore the depths through the eyes of its inhabitants and learn of the potential consequences of mining their homes.
It begs the question – do we really need the deep sea or does the deep sea need us?"
